AKC Champion Sirius' Ceaseless Whiteout a Flat Coated Retriever
In addition to real estate activities, we are caregivers to two Flat Coated Retriever's. Hopefully, in the late Fall of 2010, Casey will have her first litter and if all goes well be the beginning of Wyndam Kennels. We became fascinated with the Flat Coated Retriever breed by default when, due to a employment change, we "inherited" a dog from our daughter. It first, since we already had a Golden Retriever, accepted this addition reluctantly, however as we began to know her we became intrigued by its intelligence and outgoing personality. With a little research we discoverd that she actually was a Flat Coated Retriver and began to learn more about the breed. The more we learned the more determined we became to get involved which will be the next portion of this entry.
We finally located a breeder of Flat Coats and contacted her and soon were on our way to Maine to acquire a puppy which we named Casey. By that time our original Flat Coat was approching her senior years, however the two bonded and LB became an excelent tutor of the traits needed to become Flat Coated Retriever.
We stated showing Casey in dog shows in the North East and althought she initall gathered a couple of points my abilities as a "handler" did not seem to convince the judges. After a couple of years trying ot obtain a AKC Championship for Casey to no avail, we finally obtained a professional handler. Casey was awarded her AKC Championship within a month. Proving, at least to us, that the owner/handler was the low person on the ladder in the eyes of the judges.
