Get to Know john bigelow

I feel a little humbled about writing about my self especially after reading the profiles of so many very, very talented people but here goes.  I have a BA degree in Political Science from Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio.  After graduation I quickly found out that most companies have very little need for a political scientist.  Being acustomed to eating and paying the rent I quickly looked for another vocation.  In 1968 I opened Bigelow Landscaping Co. which more than payed the rent.  Four years later I sold the company for a large profit and went to work for a chemical company covering Oregon, Alaska, Washington and Idaho.

After 3 years I was promoted to Western Field Sales Manager and moved to Houston, Texas.  I have been a National Sales Manager for 30 years so I guess you can say I've spent most of my business life in marketing.  If you were to asked what my 30 years in marketing have taught me I could boil it down to this, "people don't care how much you know until they know how you care."  I'm probably no different than most people on AC in that everything starts with the wants, needs and dreams of our  clients.  It also ends when these wants, needs and dreams are for filled in the purchase of their new home.  I hope I can help you fulfill these dreams.

Since my early years in the landscaping business I've always felt a kinship with the environment.  That's probably why I've tried to emphisize Green Building.  Very shortly I will be only one of four agents in louisiana with the designation of "EcoBroker."  This bascially means that I've tried to educate myself in all aspects of building a green home.  I've discovered that most builders do not attempt to build green because they feel that doing so would put the price of their homes out of the market. This is usually not the case.   Most builders are already doing some green building but don't realize it.  By using Energy Star appliances and radiant barriers they are already on their way to qualifing as a Green Builder.  As we speak, there are only 2 or 3 agencies that will certify a builder as a Green Builder.   They are Leeds and Energy Star.

There are so many facets to green building that I won't go into it here but will attempt to address what it means to be a green builder in my blog.  I hope you share my passion for the environment and also enjoy the energy savings, air quality and  allergy free living.
