Get to Know Nick Hodak

Hello,

My name is Nick Hodak. I am a fully licensed North Carolina Home Inspector.  I am a full member of the National Association of Home Inspectors (NAHI).  I have been through Pillar To Post training and as part of my North Carolina license I am required to undergo annual continuing education.  Home inspections is my full time job.  I do provide several additional services.  My current additional services include water sampling for homes that get their water supply from a well.  I have been certified by BTS Laboratories to take mold samples.  Water and mold samples are sent to a lab for analysis after collection.  Results are usually available within 3-8 busines days.  EDR has certified me to conduct neighborhood environmental reports.  These reports can usually be sent at the same time I e-mail my inspection reports.

Insuarnce policies that I currently carry consist of: Health, General Liability, and E&O.

Proudly serving Craven, Carteret, Jones, and Onslow Counties in Eastern North Carolina.

Certifications

Home Inspections:  I conduct non-invasive visual inspections.  There are over 1600 points to each of my inspections.  I have inspected all types of houses from new construction to historic houses more than 130 years old, from "starter homes" to luxury homes that sell for $1Million or more.  The time it takes to conduct an inspection depends mostly on the age and square footage of the house.  Expect most inspections to run between 2-4 hours.

My inspection reports are computer generated and produced on site.  Digital photos are taken and included in the report.  Every report is bound in a 3 ring binder.  Each binder has additional information and coupons useful for any new homeowner.

Water Samples: These are usually taken when the water supply to a house is from a well.  Even if a water treatment (softening) system has been installed it is a good idea to understand what the water quality is like prior to treatment. Water treament systems are NOT inspected or evaluated.  These samples can be taken Monday-Thursday.  Results are generally available with in 3-4 busines days.

Mold Smaples: These are taken at the request of the client when evidence suggests that conditions may exist that would promote any kind of fungal growth.  Samples are only taken where the client requests samples to be taken from.  I have the tools and equipment to take swab and air samples.  Results are available within 5-8 busines days.  For cleanup or remediation I recommend restoration services that specialize in disaster clean up.

Neighborhood Environmental Reports: These are provided at the request of the client.  A NER is similar to a Carfax report (when buying a used automobile) but for your house.  Any environmental concerns that have been reported by state,  federal, or other agencies typically show up on these reports. Concerns that typically show up on these reports are chemical spills, leaking underground oil tanks, and loactions of reported drug labs. EDR reports on immediate concerns within a 300 foot radius around the property in question.  Additional information is given about concerns within up to 1/4 of a mile away.  When possible additional information is given reguarding clean-up. Don't let your guard down just because the property "looks good" or is in a nice neighborhood or subdivision.
