Hi, everyone. I'm Lori Coomey and I am a Realtor with Keller Williams Realty in Columbia, SC. I grew up in Elkhart, IN and attended Elkhart Memorial High School. I graduated in 1990 with an amazing group of classmates who are now spread across the country.
After high school, I went to Purdue University for a couple of years, but college just wasn't what I was interested in at the time. Of course I regret that now, like most people who don't finish college, but I love my real estate career.
I have one daughter, Elizabeth, who is truly the light of my life. She was born in 1994, which makes her a teenager now (ugh!). She and I live together in Chapin, SC where she is a freshman at Chapin High School.
In 1998, I moved to Columbia to open a restaurant here called Beezer's Gourmet Sandwich Shop. After being a hands on owner/manager for 9 years, I decided to go into real estate full time. I love the restaurant business and Beezer's and my employees there are like my children, but real estate is my true love. It's amazing how much I learned running my restaurant that transfers to my real estate business. First and foremost, I learned the 10 to 1 rule. You know, every person you upset is going to tell 10 people how bad it was and every person you make happy might tell one other person about their good experience. So just like in life, if you treat others the way you would want to be treated, you have a good chance of being successful.
I also really like to read, take walks, spend time with friends, play games with my daughter and shop.
I love first time home buyers! Helping someone find their first home and invest in their future is why I love real estate. I also love working with people who are relocating to Columbia for the first time. I love this city and it's so much fun showing newcomers all of the things that I have discovered over the past ten years.
One of those things that I discovered about the area is Lake Murray. Wow, what a beautiful place to be on a warm day! The lake is so large, it's easy to get lost...well, for me anyway, since I have no sense of direction, but that's another story.
It's funny, while I'm writing this I'm realizing how many things I love about real estate...
Working with some of our brave military who are stationed at Fort Jackson Army Base, helping them find housing for themselves and their families is so humbling. I feel honored to be able to work with our soldiers and get to know them...Thank you for your service to our country!
I really like working with investors, also. I truly believe investing in real estate is one of the best ways to build wealth for the future. The market may fluctuate, but it eventually bounces back and if you can rent a property and get someone else to pay for your equity, it just makes sense.
I have also had the opportunity to work with a young family who was in a short sale situation. I was able to sell their home in two weeks and negotiate the short sale with the bank so that they could quickly move on with their life. It felt great to be able to help a family in need get out from under a very difficult situation.
As you can probably tell, helping people is the reason I 'm in real estate. I work very hard to make all transactions as stress-free as possible.
