|When my husband and I arrived to Wilmington from Mount Desert Island, Maine, on April Fool's Day, we had approximately 36 hours to find and purchase a house. As a Chief in the US Coast Guard, my husband had just received orders to USCGC Diligence, which is home-ported in downtown Wilmington. He was scheduled to be deployed on his current ship in four days, and would remain deployed until 2 days before our impending move, which was set for June 25. As a middle school science teacher and softball coach, I knew I could not come back to Wilmington until after the school year had finished, so we knew we had to find a house... and soon! Our first step was to find a Realtor. We randomly picked one from our Google search and called from our hotel room. When Aimee picked up the phone and I explained that I had to find a house in 3 days, I could tell she didn't quite know what to think. It was April Fool's Day, after all. However, once I explained the situation, she quickly agreed to spend the next few days showing us homes in the area. I lost count of how many houses we looked at over the next few days, but Aimee pretty much dedicated her life to helping us. We found one in time, and in order to meet our deadline, Aimee stayed up for most of the night negotiating our offer. I signed the offer from my phone while driving through rush-hour traffic in Washington D.C. on our way back to Maine. However, the story doesn't end there. Purchasing a home that is over 1,000 miles from your current residence is not easy. Without Aimee, I don't know what I would have done. As a first-time home buyer, with my husband deployed and unreachable, I had no idea what to do. Aimee led me through, step by step. She set me up with all the contacts I needed for financing, and the purchase of our home was incredibly smooth. She also went above and beyond being a Realtor by helping me to buy news floors for my home. She helped me to set it up with local vendors, and even agreed to be there for the delivery of the floors, since they arrived to North Carolina before I did!
