"How do you measure success? Is it the, "I got a call from a blog and it turned into a $... sale? Is it, "A referral came in from a person I subscribe to and the listing was..." ?

I wrote my first blog on Active Rain in April of 2009, and made a few comments that week as well. But then I went away and didn't return until January of 2010. On January 30, 2010 I wrote my second blog. I'd been commenting all month. I'd been reading and learning. After 25 years in the business, I thought I knew most everything I needed to know. But all that January I was learning some amazing stuff.

Agents were posting about experiences and getting comments about agent and client behavior. Agents were blogging about blogging. No damn wonder I wasn't getting any readers on my blogging efforts in other venues. Agents were blogging about methods they use for client acquisition and client conversion. Agents were blogging about points.

Where had I been for 25 years. This stuff is all new. Videos. Pictures. Localism. Content.

I've always been a little slow. After several months and 90 blogs I hadn't had a feature. Had few subscribers. Had the blues. I was planning my "100 posts and not a feature yet" pity post when I finally got one. It was a big surprise. Don't have any idea what triggered it. Now I'm up to 200 posts, 20 features and almost 200,000 points. My 200th post got over 150 comments. With round numbers like that, I just had to say something. Today, I feel like I'm a successful Active Rain blogger. I'm doing okay. I've got readers. I've learned more about real estate in 1 year than I learned the previous 24. But most importantly, I'm a better real estate agent. I know new ways to serve my clients better. I have tools to make me more professional. I now have a way to measure myself against the standards I claim to have.

Success comes in many forms. I'm a success just by being here, and loving it."
