My dad grew up in the South. Near Meridian Mississippi. Because of him, even though I grew up in San Diego, when I get tired or sick, I speak with a Southern accent. My grandma would cook me rabbit for lunch (which she killed that morning) and serve it with sweet tea. I learned that RC Cola and a Moon Pie is an acceptable meal. And y’all is a term you hear from people that care about you. But for those that aren’t aware of what it is like to be Southern, take a gander (take a look) at some of these:

Let me explain, most of my life I was influenced by the Chesapeake Bay as far as seafood.  Steamed Blue Crabs, Crab Cakes, Oysters and how we prepare most seafood, Old Bay Seasoning!  Problem when I make my seafood in the house the smell I love others not so much, here is what I use to steam seafood, beer, vinegar, Old Bay and water, been around the bay you know the smell.  Decided to move my steamer pot outside but needed a burner, answer GasOne Propane Single Burner Camp Stove with High Temp Paint & Red QCC Steel Braided Regulator with Height Adjustable Legs.Lighthouse Seafood on 466 has a nice selection so started there for Stone Crab Claws, Winn Dixie for corn on the cob, Sprouts for Peewee Dutch Potatoes and Publix for sweet cole slaw.  Total Wine and Spirits for the beer and a gre...

Friday for good Catholic is always fish for dinner... I have grown up as an Altar Boy, Catholic Grammar Schools and Catholic High School. Diane has grown up as a good Italian Catholic so having Fish on Friday is pretty much an understood.Instead of the standard baked/fried fish sticks and baked/fried potatoes I opted for baked Salmon with baked vegies and mashed potatoes. So, what did you have for dinner tonight? Wishing you a safe and healthy life and I look forward to your comments. This Week…Birthday Wishes to a President.  My elementary school was Thomas Jefferson Elementary. I have no idea what it’s called now.  Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude. Thomas JeffersonMy fascination with President Jefferson began on my senior trip when we visited Monticello, his home, and plantation.   In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. Thomas JeffersonEven though our group had to leave, I knew that I would return someday. What held my attention was The Great Clock. He was not just our third President. He was also the author of the Declaration of Independence, the Founder of the University of Virginia, and an inventor.  Ex...

Our Monarch Caterpillar Nursery The nursery is doing well and so are the 10 Monarch Caterpillars, doing what caterpillars do. The Monarch Butterfly visited our back patio several weeks ago and spent quite a bit of time landing on the milkweed plants repeatedly. We didn't see any eggs left behind but that may simply have been our vision as Monarch eggs are supposedly quite small. A couple weeks ago my wife saw a couple of very small caterpillars on one of the milkweed plants and now there are 10 (there were a couple others but they didn't make it for long). They have grown pretty substantially which we hope will help at least some of them survive and move into the next phase (chrysalis), and not become a tasty meal for one of the many birds in our yard. I suspect the mortality rate for c...

Tucked away in the Rocky Mountains along the Little Thompson River lies The Tubs. Over the years the river has carved away the granite, making these small, cascading pools. Accessible only to the residents of the Pinewood Springs property owners association, this is a great location to listen to the running river and even take a swim. There is also a playground and picnic benches adjacent to the river so you can make it an afternoon of fun.

.      The Baltimore Orioles have started fast at 8-4 .Their Lineup has 6-7 Number  1 Draft Picks , which probably is an MLB Record. This young group of O’s are also being called the Comeback Kids ! They have am amazing ability to snatch a game from their opponents very late in the Game ! The Pitching haslooked very good with Burnes , Kremer and GraysonRodriguez and are among the top Starters in ERA’s.Three of their DC1’s are basically playing their first fullSeason in 2024 - Colton Cowser, Jackson Holliday &Jordan Westburg . And even more amazing is there are another group of Top Prospects in the high Minors . Hope to see you all at the Yard as CharmCity is the place to be this Summer !

Heck with soda, it's Friday and I'm ready for my weekly Barley Pop!It seems like it's been forever since I've had an "easy" week where I've said "Friday already?".When I woke up this morning I thought it was Saturday. The realization that It's back to the salt mine this morning was hard on me. Have you ever had one of those days where you forgot (momentarily) that it was a back to the salt mine day?

Now in all fairness, I am always wondering who comes up with these National Days... I had to smile because in our home for the past 29 years it has been National Pet Day every day not just on April 11th:) What are your thoughts about this subject? Either way our pets appreciate that we treat them every day with love and kindness. They in turn give us the same love and affection. Wishing you a safe and healthy life and I look forward to your comments. Friday Fun…What Says Spring to You?? Patricia Kennedy wrote a post Picco’s Walk in which she talked about seeing the Cherry Trees but the Redbud trees signaled SPRING to her. For many, it may be the tulips and daffodils beginning to poke their heads through the soil.                                                                 Azaleas   Some see robins in their area and that signals Spring  For me, it’s the appearance of our Texas Bluebonnets and the azaleas!  When these make their appearance, I know it’s time to put the heavy jackets away, break out my flip-flops, and get more allergy medicine!   What about you? What signals SPRING for you???

This is like a coming soon post about a dinner we are attending/hosting this evening. We are very lucky to have a wide group of friends and to live where we do. Firstly, friends - most people know a small group of people, well Annie is one of those people I discovered when we got married who stays in touch with everyone she knows, I would say 70% of our guests were from her side. Many of those friends are wine collectors, her previous partner who died loved wine and introduced Annie to many of his friends, and they have remained friends. We attend a monthly dinner with some of these and the wines tasted are wonderful, as well as some great food. In fact Saturday we have one of those dinners, which are mostly in New Jersey as most of the people live in New Jersey. But today, we have ten fr...
