Remember this?  Library in Spring Park, Searcy AR.This card does not have a date on it but the place to put a stamp asks for a one cent stamp.  So how long ago was that?  Some of the old one cent stamps have become collectible.  When I became a Searcy resident, my children and I went to this library.  It was a small house near the entrance to Spring Park,  It was a charming little place and my kids loved going there.  I don't remember what the buildings in the background were.  Searcy Sleuths?  Do you remember? Here's another blog about the library and includes the ladies who might have helped with it. The 2024 Carlsbad 5000~ April 7 in Carlsbad CA ~ Carlsbad hosts several premier running events during the year. The Carlsbad 5000, on April 7th, is reported to be the world’s fastest 5K race. Several world and US records have been set, and broken, since the race was established in 1986. No doubt runners will attempt to set new records in 2024! The Carlsbad 5000 is presented by National University. There’s still time to register online, but don’t delay as this event usually sells out. There are multiple races on Sunday April 7th. Of course there is the big race, the Carlsbad 5000 (5K), as well as the All Day 20K (four 5K races) with 4 categories of runners. (Photo is not of the Carlsbad 5000 and is courtesy of Pixabay).  The Junior Carlsbad race on the same day is for kids ages 4 to 12. ...

While most folks think of St. Patrick of Ireland on March 17, there's another saint celebrating her feast day today as well-St. Gertrude of Nivelles. The patron saint of cats and gardeners, she was born in 628 to a noble family in what is now Belgium, Gertrude was God-loving and  headstrong. At 10, she refused the marriage offer of a duke and said she would never marry any man. She and her mother Itta established the Abbey of Nivelles, which served as a Benedictine nunnery as well as a later home for Irish monks.Gertrude spent years as Abbess to the monastery, dedicating her time to helping the sick, the elderly, and the poor. This earned her a reputation as a patron saint of travellers, widows, and the mentally ill. Three years after she retired, she passed away at age 33.She is famous ...

Every year Saint Patrick of Ireland is honored by people worldwide on March 17th. St. Patrick is famous for converting Ireland from centuries of Celtic polytheism (belief in many pagan gods) to monotheism (belief in one God), specifically the God of Catholic Christianity. Saint Patrick allegedly used the three-leafed green shamrock in his sermons to illustrate the mystery of the Holy Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) to the Irish people. He also built many churches and schools. By the time of his death on March 17th, Ireland was an overwhelmingly Christian nation. While it's unlikely he actually cast out snakes from Ireland (there's little evidence any existed there), his spiritual influence remains strong. This year consider honoring this godly person by praying his prayer, known a...
